Text 3 – Upper intermediate
1. First Reading Task
Task:
Were your ideas about bees that you discussed in your previous groups correct according to the text? (SKIM)
If your answer is no, how does is the text different from your previous group’s ideas? If your answer is yes, mention one fact that you
discussed in your previous group that is also in the text (SCAN)
Does the text mention why there is a fall in the world’s bee population? (SCAN)
How this task would be set:
This task would be set orally, and each group will also receive a worksheet.
Students will be divided into groups of four, but the students are not allowed to be in a group with the same people when they did the
task that required them to discuss what they know about bees. I will hand out the worksheet to the groups (which will contain the
questions so that the students can read it and space for the students to write their answers). I will read the questions together with the
entire class to ensure they understand what they must do. I will emphasize that they should read quickly and not worry too much about
unfamiliar words. The students then have 2 minutes to skim and scan through the text and answer the questions. Once the time is up, I
will ask each group to answer the questions.
