AIM- to test whether a group of adults with asperger syndrome or High
Functioning Autism would be impaired on revised version of Reading the Mind
in the Eyes Task
, HYPOTHESES
★ Participants with autism will score significantly lower on the revised Reading
the Mind in the Eyes Task
★ Participants with autism will score significantly higher on the Autism Spectrum
Quotient Test (AQ measure)
★ Females in the normal
BACKGROUND STUDIES
➔ Autism is a failure to develop particular cognitive processes linked to social
interaction that occurs in approximately 1% of population
➔ Autism - general term for disorders from HFA and AS to individuals showing
severe forms of autism
➔ Definition of autism
- Difficulties with social interaction
- Difficulties with verbal and non verbal communication
- Lack of imaginative play
➔ Theory of Mind- cognitive ability enabling us to realise that others have
feelings, beliefs, knowledge and desires of their own different from ours.
