STRATEGY
WGU describes Data Management Foundations as an introduction to conceptual, logical, and
physical data modeling, creation of databases and tables in SQL-enabled database systems, and
database normalization. Officially published WGU learning outcomes also identify three major
technical competencies:

 Explaining attributes of databases, database tables, and SQL commands
 Determining how queries create and manipulate relational data
 Defining primary and foreign keys in normalization

Do not study D426 as merely an SQL coding course.

The OA primarily requires you to understand why database concepts work, recognize the
correct terminology, and interpret SQL.

You should be able to look at:

 a SQL statement and predict its purpose;
 a badly designed table and determine which normalization rule it violates;
 an index scenario and determine which structure is most appropriate;
 a database-design scenario and determine whether it represents conceptual, logical, or
physical design.
