MARKETING PLAN FOR URBANSTYLE CLOTHING

1. INTRODUCTION

UrbanStyle Clothing is a small clothing retail business that provides affordable and
fashionable clothing to young adults and other price-conscious consumers. The business
offers casual wear, accessories and seasonal fashion items through a small physical store and
social-media-based marketing. A marketing plan is a structured document that outlines an
organisation’s marketing objectives, strategies and activities for achieving its desired market
position and business goals. For an SMME such as UrbanStyle Clothing, a marketing plan
can assist management in understanding the internal capabilities of the business and external
market conditions, identifying opportunities and threats, and allocating limited resources
effectively. It can therefore support informed decision-making and improve the business’s
ability to compete in the clothing market.

THEORETICAL DISCUSSION OF THE INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL
ENVIRONMENT

1.1 INTERNAL ENVIRONMENT

The internal environment consists of factors within the business that can influence its ability
to achieve its objectives. These factors include the organisation’s mission, resources,
capabilities and business offering and are generally more controllable than external
environmental factors (Monash Business School, 2026).

1.1.1 MISSION

A mission statement explains the fundamental purpose of an organisation and provides
direction concerning what the business seeks to achieve for its customers and other
stakeholders (Cortés, Rivera and Bohle Carbonell, 2021).

, 1.1.2 RESOURCES

Business resources refer to the assets and capabilities available to an organisation, including
financial resources, employees, physical assets, technology and knowledge, which enable the
business to operate and pursue its objectives (Monash Business School, 2026).

1.1.3 BUSINESS OFFERING

A business offering refers to the products or services that an organisation provides to
customers to satisfy their needs and create value within a particular market (Monash
Business School, 2026).

1.2 EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT

The external environment comprises factors outside the direct control of the business that
may influence its operations, performance and marketing decisions. These factors include
technological, competitive, political, economic, social and other environmental forces
(Monash Business School, 2026).

1.2.1 TECHNOLOGICAL

Technological factors refer to developments in technology that can affect how businesses
operate, communicate with customers and deliver products or services. For UrbanStyle
Clothing, developments such as e-commerce, social media, digital payment systems and data
analytics can influence marketing and customer purchasing behaviour (Monash Business
School, 2026).

1.2.2 COMPETITIVE

Competitive factors refer to the actions and strategies of existing and potential competitors
that influence a business’s ability to attract and retain customers. UrbanStyle Clothing must
therefore consider competitors’ prices, product ranges, quality, promotional activities and
customer service when developing its marketing strategy (Monash Business School, 2026).
