Ipsilateral Answer: Ipse (same) on the same side, your left arm is ipsilateral to your left leg
Contralateral Answer: Contra (opposite) on the opposite side, your left arm is contralateral to

Medial Answer: Medius (middle); toward the midline of the body. The nose is medial to the
eyes.
Lateral Answer: Latus (side); away from the midline of the body. The ears are lateral to the
nose.
Proximal Answer: Proximus (nearest); closer to the point of attachment or origin. The elbow is

stomach is inferior to the chest.
Ventral (Anterior) Answer: Venter (belly/front); toward the front of the body. The sternum is
ventral to the spine
Dorsal (Posterior) Answer: Dorsum (back); toward the back of the body. The spine is dorsal to
the sternum
Cephalic Answer: Kephale (head); relating to the head. The skull is part of the cephalic region.
Cranial Answer: Cranium (skull); relating to the skull or toward the head. The brain is located
in the cranial cavity.
