What is your topic? Cats are better than dogs for pets
Who is your target audience? Pet owners
Share examples of logos, pathos, and ethos you will include in the speech.
What other persuasive techniques and/or appeals will you use? I will use credibility
and evidentiary appeals mostly, but maybe some logical appeals.
How will you avoid defective persuasion? I will use factual claims that will be backed
up by facts cited from scholarly resources.

This article talks about the health benefits that have been founded by research according
to Igor Purlantov, “these benefits have been studied and confirmed by researchers and
health care professionals around the world who understand the benefits of having the
most popular pet in the world, a cat, at home.” Benefits mentioned are improved immune
system, help with autism, lower blood pressure and several other health benefits are
mentioned in the article.

This article discusses how cats could be more beneficial than dogs as a support animal. The
article states that “Although dogs have the capacity to perform useful tasks and are more
interactive with people than cats, they require more attention and care, and some parents
reportedly find their ASD child is more compatible with a cat, or that a dog simply would not be a
feasible companion for their child.” And also that both and the child with autism and the cat were
more receptive of each other.

The article talks about a study by researchers at the University of Minnesota, that states people
who did not own a cat were 30 to 40 percent more likely to die of cardiovascular disease than
those who owned a cat. According to the article, the study was conducted by Dr. Adnan Qureshi,
who is a stroke expert at the University of Minnesota. He was inspired to do the study because of
other studies stating that pets can be a source to help with stress.
