Criminal Versus Deviant Sexual Behavior
The case studies I chose to look at are Rocky and Eddie. Although both Rocky and Eddie
are Caucasian men in their 40s who exhibit actions that go against social sexual norms, they
differ greatly in how they view sexuality, how they relate to consent, and whether they pose a
risk to the public.
Etiology of the Offender (Rocky Manzoni)
Rocky is a single man with a history of sexual assault and multiple personal struggles
(divorce). Psychological research frequently shows that the etiology of sexual offending
behavior can be influenced by background characteristics, such as upbringing, personal
relationships, and a family history of trauma. Rocky's behavior of going to a pharmacy to
observe women may indicate problems with impulse control, social boundaries, and an improper
display of sexual attraction (Huang et al., 2022). These problems are frequently connected to
past trauma or unhealthy coping strategies after past relationship failures, such as his divorces.
His prior sexual assault arrest may be a sign of maladaptive psychosexual development, which
could be impacted by societal attitudes toward women, his own sexual history, or underlying
psychological disorders like personality disorders, anxiety, or paraphilic disorders (Huang et al.,
2022). His behavior may be influenced by a variety of social, psychological, and potentially
neurological reasons. Childhood events, exposure to unhealthy relationships, or mental health
concerns could all be examples of this (Huang et al., 2022).
