, Question 1:
1.1
Utilitarianism is similar in that it compares the number of people whose lives were made
wretched, or the number of lives lost against the number of people whose lives were made
pleasant.
Kant’s categorical imperative:
A categorical imperative indicates that it is our responsibility to behave in a manner that we
would like and anticipate others to behave in the same situation, as if it were a universal rule.
a rule that can never be breached. Additionally, it asserts that respect for others is required
because all people are morally and aesthetically valuable. According to the categorical
imperative's version of the autonomy principle, everyone can decide what the rules of the
universe are. (Doss, 2021)
Principle of rights:
This principle stands on the different rights that a person has in this community, society, and
world.
In the case study the right to privacy is also met when the interview committee decides to
keep the information, they uncovered about the corruption in the university secret. It keeps
the privacy of the university and the people involved safe.
It is also stated that they will give her a chance to get the qualifications needed for the
position which is meets the right to education. The fact the interview committee gave the
daughter of a high-profile politician the position fulfils the right of occupation.
In this case study the rights to fairness and equality of the daughter of a high-profile politician
is met by giving her a fair chance to prove herself in the position even though she doesn’t
have the education knowledge that is required. She has acted in the position for over a year
and does know what she is doing. She is given a fair chance to get her qualifications that is
needed to stay in the position that they require of her.
Principle of justice:
This principle recommended that everyone has a right to the broadest possible fundamental
freedoms that are comparable to those of others and that socioeconomic liberties should be
set up in a way that is advantageous to everyone and related to positions that are open to
everyone.
In this case study the candidate has fair access to education, she just hasn’t gone yet, but
the interview committee has now decided that she has to get the necessary qualifications. In
the case study everyone receives the same access to education. The problem in this case
study comes in at the ethical part of the process in the educational institute. There was clear
corruption in the admissions department of the university. That caused the candidate to have
false qualifications that she did not legally get at the university.
In terms of the principle of justice, the daughter of a high-profile politician was not supposed
to get the opportunity to get the position and go and get the necessary qualifications. The
interview committee was supposed to hire someone else for the position because she did
not meet the necessary requirements. Even though she has worked in the position for over a
year, she still needs to have the necessary qualifications.
