Data Analytics and
Information Governance –
C803 Task 1
, A Types of Data
data and patient
Types of data in healthcare are aggregate data, comparative
centric. This research and data will help hospitals and researchers in ways to
make healthcare decisions accurate and cost effective. Characteristics of
these types of data are primary or secondary. Primary data provides patient
identifiable information that has been documented by service providers. A
primary source can be the EHR. Some secondary sources can contain patient
identifiable information but more often they are considered secondary data
that has aggregate data. Aggregate data is collection of information without
identifying any person. DRG information and average length of stay (ALOS)
data are collected in aggregate and wouldn’t identify a patient individually
[ CITATION Oac16 \l 1033 ]. Comparative data is a secondary data set that
hospitals can use to compare themselves with other hospitals. It is used to
compare if their facility is doing the same, better or worse than others. Most
of the information comes from databases that contain diagnoses,
procedures, discharges status, demographics and charges [ CITATION
Kue10 \l 1033 ].
A 1-.3
Aggregate data is important in a public healthcare setting. The data
collected increases patient safety, prevention and awareness. The public will
be aware of the impact the exposure to their environment brings. The
environmental exposures consist of chemical, radiation, air pollutants, and
occupational hazards. Researching the population exposure distribution
