Chapter 1: ORIENTATION TO ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOUR
LO1- Define Organizational Behaviour and discuss importance of field.
Organizational Behaviour- study of what people think, feel and do in and around organizations.
Looks at employees behaviours, decisions, perceptions, and emotional responses
Organizations- groups of people that work interdependently towards some purpose.
OB theories help us to:
A.) Comprehend and predict work events
B.) Adopt more accurate personal theories
C.) Influence organizational events
LO2- Debate the organizational opportunities and challenges of technological change,
globalization, emerging relationships, and workforce diversity.
Technological change- Improve efficiency, interactivity and well-being but also disruptive at
workplace. Alter communication patterns and power dynamics at work, non-work times,
attention span, and technostress.
Globalization- refers to connectiveness with people in other parts of the world. Influence on
work intensification, reduce job security, and lessen work-life balance.
Another employment trend is remote work, telework- employees work from home one or more
work days per month. Advantage save time commute better work-life balance.
More self-isolation , weaker relationships with co-workers.
, Surface level Diversity- observable demographic and other overt difference such as race,
ethnicity, gender, age and physical attributes
Deep level diversity- differences in beliefs, personalities, attitudes and skill.
Diversity- POSTIVES ARE improve creativity and decision making, more awareness and response
to diverse communities
Diversity- NEGATIVES ARE dysfunctional conflict and slower team development.
