following questions.
1. Why is a sensitivity analysis done?
A sensitivity analysis is done to determine if a bacterium is resistant
to a particular antibiotic. This analysis is done to help providers
choose the right antibiotic to effectively treat an infection.
2. What is needed for a sensitivity analysis?
To perform a sensitive analysis, you will need a specimen and different
types of antibiotics.
3. How is the sensitivity analysis performed?
To perform a sensitive analysis, a sample culture that contains
microorganisms is placed in a petri dish that has agar, a gel-like
substance that serves as a solid support for the microorganisms, in it.
We then grow the microorganisms, in this case bacteria. Once the
bacterial colonies grow, they are exposed to different types of
antibiotics to determine which one of the antibiotics prevents
microbial growth.
4. What does susceptible mean in a sensitivity analysis?
In a sensitive analysis susceptible means the microbe stops growing
or is killed when exposed to a certain antibiotic.
5. What does intermediate mean in a sensitivity analysis?
In a sensitive analysis, intermediate means that the antibiotic may
work if a higher dose is given or may work in a specific area of the
body, where the antibiotic reaches high levels.
6. What does resistant mean in a sensitivity analysis?
A sensitivity analysis, resistant means that the bacteria is not affected
by the antibiotic and will continue to grow. As a result, a higher dose
of antibiotics is needed of to kill or stop the growth the bacteria or a
different antibiotic is needed to stop
