Evaluation of the Mathematics Lesson Technology
Enhancement of Student Learning
Student learning is enhanced through the use of GeoGebra technology to manipulate
common geometric figures into two-dimensional shapes. It allows the students to interact and
get hands-on instant feedback on how the theorems of a triangle work in harmony with one
another to create the common shape that most of these students have seen since their early
childhood educational careers.
Students are getting the benefit of being able to see the math “in action” as the
dimensions of the segments are changed and how that changes the way the segments can
intersect. Students sometimes have a difficult time understanding the more mathematical
explanation of adding two sides together and then comparing that value as greater or less than the
third side. It does not become meaningful learning, which in turn means it is harder to recall
later, because the students do not get to see the relationship actually work and not work out. This
functional and visual presentation allows for the more hands-on and visual learners to understand
full the Triangle Inequality Theorem.
Limitation of Technology
One of the limitations of using the technology without the supplemental support of the
more traditional paper and pencil methods for teaching the theorem is that students do not
understand how to do comparisons without the visual aids. This means that students understand
that when two sides do not add together to be greater than the third then the segments do not
