Your school has decided to introduce a Market Day where learners will have the opportunity to plan and operate a small business enterprise. The purpose of the activity is not simply to allow learners to sell products. As the teacher, you must use the activity to help learners develop an understanding of entrepreneurship, financial management, decision-making and practical business skills. Using the principles covered in Study Unit 4: Entrepreneurship and Study Unit 6: Financial Management and Functions, develop a Market-Day Enterprise Plan for your school. Your plan must be based on your own chosen school context and business idea. You may use a school where you currently teach, a school where you previously completed teaching practice, or a realistic primary-school context that you are familiar with. Your Market-Day Enterprise Plan must show how you would take the idea from planning to implementation and evaluation. Your plan must include: 1. Your business idea and target market Choose a specific product or service that learners could realistically offer at a school Market Day. Explain why you selected this particular idea and identify the learners or community members who would be the target market. 2. Entrepreneurial application Explain how the activity would develop at least three characteristics or skills associated with entrepreneurship among the learners. Your discussion must show how the learners would develop these through the actual Market-Day activity rather than simply defining the characteristics. 3. Financial plan Prepare a simple financial plan for your enterprise. You must indicate: • the items/resources that need to be purchased; • the estimated cost of each item; • the expected selling price; • the expected income; and • the expected profit or loss. You must show your calculations clearly. 4. Marketing plan Develop a simple marketing plan using the 4 Ps: product, price, place and promotion. Apply each of the four Ps specifically to your chosen Market-Day enterprise. 5. Teacher's role and teaching approach Explain how you would guide learners before, during and after the Market Day. You must incorporate at least two teaching methods discussed in the study guide and explain how each would be used in this activity. 6. Evaluation and reflection Explain how you would determine whether the Market-Day activity was successful. Identify two possible problems that could arise and explain what you would do to address them. Submission format Present your response as a Market-Day Enterprise Plan rather than answering the requirements as a traditional question-and-answer exercise. You may use headings, tables, calculations, diagrams or other appropriate formats. Your plan should be specific to your chosen school context. Generic responses that could apply to any school without modification will not demonstrate sufficient application. MARKING RUBRIC: 60 MARKS Assessment criterion Marks 1.
