fowler's position (90 degree angle)

-use swivel technique to guide the patient so they are sitting on the side of the bed

-while supporting the patient, and ask the patient to move to the edge of the bed until his/her
feet are firmly planted on the ground



swivel technique - ANSWERS-1. adjust the bed

2. raise the head of the bed so the patient is in fowler's position

3. ask the patient to bend their knees

-if the patient indicates that she or he is going to fall, call out for assistance and guide the
patient down to the floor:

a. keep a tight core and neutral spine

b. call out for help as you guide the patient to the floor (the knee not facing the back of the
patient, the other one is being used to guide them down), holding on to his/her core to direct
their fall

-protect the patient's head and neck******, do not move the patient once they have fallen, and
do not move yourself either

-do not leave the patient unattended, do not attempt to bring the patient back up or reposition
them. stay with the patient until assistance comes.

-patient falls are incidents, if this occurs please follow protocol
