ASSIGNMENT TWO

,QUESTION ONE
1.1 The growth and the development that occurs in the womb, where a single
cell becomes an embryo than a fetus that later into a baby.
1.2 Germination phase
Development that happens from conception up until 2 weeks. Conception
when a sperm fertilized the female egg and it than forms into a zygote. A
zygote consists of one cell and it is created when a sperm and egg merge
together. The egg travels along the fallopian tubes from the ovaries to the
uterus. During the germinal stage, cells which are for the placenta, the
umbilical cord and the amniotic fluid differentiates to form an embryo. The
mass cof cells attaches itself to the lining of the uterus. The next stage begins.
Embryonic phase
This stage lasts from 2 weeks to the 8th week of the pregnancy. After the
division of the zygote, it travels to the fallopian tubes and attaches itself to the
lining of the uterus. Blood vessels grow and form a placenta. The placenta is
connected to the uterus and it helps to provide oxygen and nourishments from
the woman’s body to the embryo that is developing. All this happens through
the umbilical cord. The first part of the embryo to develop is the neural tube,
this tube will become the brain and the spinal cord. The heart starts to pump
blood, other body parts start to emerge as soon as the nervous system start to
develop. Ears, nose, eyes, jaws, intestines grow immediately in the second half
of this period.
The fetal phase
This stage lasts from week 9 to week 40, which is birth. At this stage the fetus
is very tiny and it begins to form parts of a human. Between weeks 9 and 12,
arms and legs begin to appear and begin to move. The sex organs begins to
differ at this time. Week 16, the fetus is 4.5 inches long, the toes and fingers
start to develop. The fetus can respond to sound as the hearing has developed.
At week 36 the fetus is now ready for birth at week 37 all the organs are fully
developed and it could survive outside the uterus without facing any risks.

IN THE XHOSE CULTURE there is no ceremony for naming the baby, the baby is
usually given a name before it is born. The Xhosa people do a ceremony that is
called Imbeleko it is done to introduce the baby to the ancestors and to ask

, them to protect the baby from evil things and from this world. This ceremony
is done by slaughtering a goat as a sacrifice to the ancestors, it is the same goat
that is used to ask the ancestors for protection. An elder is the one who is
supposed to speak to the ancestors, and call out the name of the baby. Usually
the name is given to the baby has a meaning behind it and elders expect the
baby should live up to its name when the baby has grown.
1.4 I learnt that our parents give us particular names that have a deep meaning
behind it and that we should live up to it. My name means having a purpose in
life and I am still yet to fulfil that purpose.
QUESTION TWO
Individualist culture talks about the individual only and the individuals rights,
goals and own value. This essay will discuss what individualist culture is and
whether I am an individualist or not.
An individualist is someone who makes their own choices. Chooses the life
he/she wants to live and doing what makes him/her happy. Individualism is all
about being independent and refusing help from others. They enjoy their own
company.
I am an individualist and make my own decisions because at the end of the day
those decisions will affect and benefit me. I make my own goals that I’ll be able
to achieve in my time and my pace, if I let people to make goals for me than
they will expect me to achieve and fulfil them in their time. I tend to be more
independent than being dependent on someone, it teaches me how to
overcome difficulties in life. My decisions are based on my happiness.
