During the implementation phase, theory is turned into practice. This
phase is composed of: acquisition and installation of hardware and
software, conversion, user training, and documentation. Basically, the
system is put in place for users. This phase comes after a thorough
analysis and understanding of the system requirements and
specifications. Given that the system may be complex and that
systems work is cyclical, if issues are discovered, analysts might need
to go back to the previous phase. Interactions with users can also
takes longer. And that might stretches the duration of the
implementation phase. Also, if implementation activities are not well
planned during the testing phase, it might impact the duration of the
implementation.
Overall, it is not always realized how complex it could be to deploy an
