Quantitative Research/Analysis
In quantitative research the aim is to transform raw data into data that
can be statistically analysed.
Descriptive data analysis= aims to describe the data, is done first
and helps the researcher gain an initial impression of the data that
were collected
Inferential data analysis= allows you to draw conclusions about the
populations from the sample data
DESCRIPTIVE DATA ANALYSIS
To describe variables/data from the sample, you make use of a frequency
distribution, which is usually a graphical or tabular representation.
Frequency distributions give you a rough idea about what the distribution
of scores look like.
Measures of central tendency
1. The mode= the most commonly occurring score in a distribution
2. The median= is the middle score in a data set which has been
ranked from lowest to highest
3. The mean= is the arithmetic average of ALL values in the data set
The formula used for determining the mean:
Σx
^x =
n
Mean is “x bar”
Calculation is pronounced “the sum of x over n”
