Critical Incident Communications - Answer The following procedures will be followed when a
critical incident occurs (T is the time when the original Coast Guard component becomes aware
of the incident):

1. Initial Report - Vertical dissemination: Within time T+5 minutes: The reporting unit will
contact 1-800-323-7233 (1-800-DAD-SAFE) and request a conference call with its parent
command, the District, Area, and Coast Guard Command Center.



2. Information dissemination - Horizontal communications: Within time T+15 minutes: The
Coast Guard Command Center will transmit a Critical Incident Report



3. Follow-on conference call update: Within time T+30 minutes: The Coast Guard Command
Center will initiate a Commander's Conference with the reporting unit Commanding Officer, the
Sector Commander, the District Commander, the Area Commander, and the Commandant or
their designee.



4. Coordination: At time T+ 02 hours: Unless otherwise directed by Commandant at the T+30
conference, a video teleconference will be established by the Coast Guard Command Center
with the District Commander, Area Commander, and Commandant or designee to update the
situation and course of action.



5. Battle rhythm if it progressed to the T+02 hr conference



6. Information sharing: sharing with other entities horizontally with DOD interagency, & private
partners

DHS or DOD operations.



7. Any significant mishap or casualty affecting a CG Aux vsl or aircraft that is unusual, likely to
generate significant interest, or requiring other external notifications.



8.An Incident with high level/national media interest



9. Other incidents defined as critical by policy/CO/OIC, CG-DCO-NCC/DCMS watch or the
commandant believes warrants immediate notification of the chain of command, such as
significant marine casualties.
