Pre-Lab Questions
1. Identify three major similarities and differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.
Prokaryotic does not have a nucleus, whereas eukaryotic does.
Prokaryotic has a single loop DNA structure. Eukaryotic has a complex linear DNA structure.
Prokaryotic cells do not have mitochondria present. Eukaryotic cell have mitochondria.
2. Where is the DNA housed in a prokaryotic cell? Where is it housed in a eukaryotic cell?
DNA is carried on a signle loop that is attached to the cell member in a prokaryotic cell. In a
Eukaryotic cell DNA is housed in the nucleus.
3. Identify three structures which provide support and protection in a eukaryotic cell.
The plasma membrane separates the cell from the outside environment. The cell wall, when present
provides shape and protects from injuries. The cytoskeleton provides the correct shape and anchors
the cellular organelles.
