, This focus group is the learners that qualify for title services at Sawtooth Elementary. The
school holds grades k- 5th. The Title I population the school is almost 43% of the learners, which
means that out of 496 Learner’s, almost 213 learners' quality for free or reduced lunch
(idahoschools.org).
One communication practice that promotes cultural awareness is to make sure that the
administration knows the needs of the family and their situation to make sure they have the
means to receive the best education that they can. Mississippi College published an article that
stated, “Cultural awareness is fundamental to providing an equitable learning environment for all
students”. This means that resources and material should be given to students based on their
needs so that everyone has the same opportunities to learn in the school setting. Low-income
families struggle to make sure their basic needs at home are met. Some struggle to provide
sufficient food supplies for their own family. The though have buying school supplies puts
another strain on them. As a school, one communication practice that promotes cultural
awareness is that we will provide extra materials that the students will need in the classroom.
This will let the parents know that the school is aware of the family's needs and is willing to
support them. The parents will reach out to the administrator or the counselor for bigger needs
such as coats, food bank supplies, or backpacks. Teachers will have access to the basic classroom
supplies to give as they see fit.

is to make sure that the students are getting their emotional needs met. By implementing the
CASEL’s five core SEL skills, teachers can develop practices that embrace the cultures of all
students and adults (Elias, 2021). Students coming from lower income families face struggles
