1. Analysis of the inequality using John Rawls’ principles (in the

The inequality between extremely wealthy individuals such as Patrice
Motsepe and the widespread poverty experienced by many South
Africans, particularly those living in mining communities, raises serious
concerns about justice and fairness. According to the political
philosopher John Rawls, a just society must follow two main principles
of justice that are arranged in a strict order of priority. These principles
help determine whether inequalities in wealth and power can be
considered fair.

In South Africa, wealth generated from industries such as mining has
created enormous fortunes for a small group of individuals and
companies. At the same time, many workers who contribute directly to
this wealth still struggle with poverty, poor housing, unemployment, and
lack of opportunities. This situation raises the question of whether the
current distribution of wealth in society is morally acceptable according
to Rawls’ theory of justice.
