INTRODUCTION
Dear Student
Welcome to the teaching of Mathematics in the Intermediate phase.
It is a pleasure to welcome you as students to TMN 3704 module and we hope that you will
find it both interesting and rewarding. As a lecturer, I will do my best to make your study of this
module successful. You will be well on your way to success if you start studying early in the
year and resolve to do the assignment(s) properly. Start writing assignments early enough to
allow time for careful revisions before submission. No extension will be granted.
Right from the start, we would like to point out that you must read all the tutorial letters you
receive during the year immediately and carefully, as they always contain important and,
sometimes, urgent information. We encourage you to make use of the discussion forum to get
assistance with any academic-related queries and to help you understand the study material.
This forum is aimed at sharing good practices with fellow students. Its importance cannot be
overemphasised.
The nature of the module requires students to study and cover a wide spectrum of module-
related knowledge. The content specified in the module should be delivered in a developmental
format. As a result, knowledge development for this module is addressed in the form of
assignments/assessments and the examination. All the assignments are equally important.
This module follows an online continuous assessment approach. It is subject to summative
assessment (examination), hence, supplementary examination.

, As you do the assignments, you will get an opportunity to engage strongly with the content.
You are therefore advised to develop your own study schedule (plan, organise yourself and
manage your time properly) and begin assignments soon after you received your study
material.
Although students may work together when preparing assignments, each student must write
and submit his or her own individual assignment. In other words, you must submit your own
ideas in your own words. It is unacceptable for students to submit identical assignments on the
basis that they worked together. That is copying (a form of plagiarism) and none of these
assignments will be marked. Furthermore, you may be penalised or subjected to disciplinary
proceedings by the university. We are committed to help you pass this module. Please be
committed from your side to pass. Be mindful of the fact that success will not come without
effort.
You are again reminded to read all the sections in Tutorial Letter 101, the CAPS document and
the Study Guide before writing your assignments.
NB: Ensure that you provide the correct module code, student number and assessment
number.
Very important: You need to ensure that you have and keep a backup copy of your submitted
assignments.
Because this is online module, you will need to use Moodle to study and complete the learning
activities for this module. Visit the website for [module code] on Moodle platform frequently.
The website for your module is TMN3704-25-Y.
