Essential Question- How can practicing musical patterns and techniques
help us perform music accurately and expressively as an ensemble?
Learning Activity- Students will work on “Hall of Heroes” by Brian
Balmages, which uses the notes from the D major scale. This is the first
position for the violin, viola, and cello, and requires a shift for the double
bass. To aid learning, students will use the digital tool Essential Elements
Interactive during class and at home.
In this lesson, students will-
• 1. Review and play the D major scale together as an ensemble.
• 2. Practice short excerpts from Hall of Heroes in class with teacher
guidance.
• 3. Use Essential Elements Interactive to practice the same musical
passages with play-along tracks.
• 4.Adjust the tempo settings if they need to slow the music down to
focus on accurate finger placement and rhythm.
• 5. Experiment with different play-along accompaniment styles to
maintain engagement and develop rhythmic consistency.
• 6.Record a short practice excerpt using the recording feature in
Essential Elements Interactive, then submit the recording for teacher
feedback.
• 7. Students will follow steps 3-6 at home when they are doing at-home
practice
