Trinity Community Hospital has conducted widespread community health needs
assessment for the primary region; it provides healthcare services. The health needs assessment
focused on cardiovascular, cancer, and orthopedic services within Trinity Community Hospital’s
surrounding service area. After careful review of the assessment findings, risk factors and needs
were identified to create a health plan summary, outlining actions recommended to meet the
community's health needs.
A1: RISK FACTORS
The assessment emphasized the growing population in the Community Hospital's service
area, emphasizing the aging population. The assessment highlighted that 15% of the population
would be over 65 years of age within five years. Approximately 33% of women and 50% of men
are predicted to develop cancer at some time during their life. The growing elderly population
will significantly increase the demand for oncology services in the service region. There is an
expected growth in the diagnosis of new cancer cases within the next five years, with cases
increasing by 34%, going from 3,200 to 4,282.
The community health findings revealed a dramatic need for orthopedic services in the
service region within the next five years. This increased need is evidenced by an anticipated rise
in orthopedic cases by about 46%, with cases jumping from 11,800 to 17,338. Spine and
inpatient joint procedures are predicted to rise by 30%, with outpatient spine and joint
procedures shooting up by about 350%.
Cardiac health needs identified in the community proved there would also be an increased
demand in the service area for cardiovascular services in the proceeding five years to come.
