From 16-18 weeks up until 32 weeks
Where do we measure for McDonald's rule?
From symphysis pubis to the top of the fundus.
Why are we doing kick counts?
To ensure the baby is doing well/well being is okay.
How many movements do we expect within an hour with kick
counts?
10 movements.
What do we do if the client isn't feeling 10 kicks within an hour?
Tell them to drink some juice and try again to stimulate the
baby, if they aren't picking up, then we have them come in to be
evaluated to get an NST
What do we look at for an NST?
, Non stress test, we check for an acceleration within the fetal
heart rate. We want 2 times within 20 minutes.
What do the pink arrows indicate on an NST?
How many times the mom feels the baby kick, they provide a
clicker that they press when they feel movement.
The pink arrows should corelate with the accelerations in the
fetal heart rate.
What are the parameters for an acceleration to be counted?
An acceleration is 15x15 above their normal heart rate.
What determines if the baby is reactive?
We have two accelerations within 20 minutes that are 15x15
greater than their heart rate
What do we do if its nonreactive?
We would do an ultrasound or provide juice to the mother to
stimulate movement.
Why do we call it non stress?
Because the mother is not having any contractions.
What physiological stage would we expect a 17 year old client
that has all baby supplies and is excited to deliver soon?
3rd trimester preparing for end of pregnancy
What physiological stage would a 29 year old client who is in
shock at a positive pregnancy test because she wont be finishing
her masters degree for 2 more years
