Gestalt Theory-Counseling Treatment Aspects Usefulness Gestalt theory is a German word for whole, form, etc., meaning the total existence of an individual. Gestalt collective counseling is an existential approach that applies this theory and emphasizes awareness of reality. Early Gestalt theory noted the link between physical tension and mental consciousness, with emphasis on process rather than content. It treats the total situation in which a human being is perceived, seeing each factor of the environment as an interrelated whole. It denies the existing dualistic view of dividing humans into minds and bodies, and considers them to be integrated organisms. Thus, it is possible to have a broader understanding compared to other theories, enabling explanation of the complexity of existential or empirical concepts. In counseling, it is also very encouraging in that it can help the narrator form a self that can be responsible for his or her life because it analyzes the background factors of the narrator. The purpose of the Gestalt consultation is to reintegrate the factors that cause conflicts within the individual rather than to analyze them. This process allows the narrator to recognize and acknowledge negative aspects of himself or herself that he or she did not acknowledge, and enables personal growth. I think it can be a very appropriate counseling technique for modern people in that they will be able to live in a meaningful form of existence through the process of reflection that takes place step by step.
