THE WAY HOME

1. The Way Home

The story is about Alex Kramer, who is a thirty-two years old woman who lives in an
appartement in Manhattan (New York) and is married to Jake, a script writer for movies. Who
is nowadays stuck in one project, by the other hand she is going to visit her parents in North
England, she is packing everything. He asked her to go on a holiday when she returned, to get
another breath. So, she said yes, but she didn’t want to do it. She wanted to go home to be in
peace and think about what she did. It would be the first time she sees her parents in ten
years, so after she was packing, she looked at a painting of a moor of her village. That moors
were her secret place, where she went when she needed to be alone and in peace. Her
favourite was Randle Moor which it was near her house, and she loved to walk there, so she
packed everything including a lot of knit clothes, because it would be cold.

When she was waiting at the airport, she remembered when she met Jake a time ago, she was
a fashionist stylist or something related to the fashion world and she met him at a party in
Denver where both were talking and had a lot of things in common, he was very handsome to
her. They continue seeing each other and within six months they got married and moved to
New York for the good of both of their careers. She felt guilty about not wanting at the
moment to be with Jake but she needed to think. She tried to read, but she couldn’t
concentrate. She was thinking about Stefano, he was a man she met on a business travel and
they spent the night in Paris talking about fashion and she cheated on Jake six times by then.
She felt guilty but she couldn’t help it. When she was in the plane, she remembered her father
that was always abroad and travelling so, she didn’t spend a lot of time with him, she loved
him though. But the she remembered what happened when she was twelve years old, she
didn’t have class by the afternoon and it was hot so she run home and when she went there,
she found her mother with another man and she ran to the moors, since then, that place was
her favourite. Then she left to college as soon as possible, entered the University and married
Jake. She never told anyone about that. When she got home, she told the story to her mother
while his father was having a walk. She understood completely, and she explained that his
father knew about the affair, but they were still together. After a few days, she was walking in
the moors and was thinking about that, she told her mother about Stefano and her mother
said to stay with Jake. While she was walking, she stopped and drank some water, it tastes like
the Earth, like her childhood. She understood, she needed to go home to find the answer, she
was staying with Jake, and she was going to tell him everything. She finally found the way
home.

2. The Nature of Truth

The story is about Annie Sanderson who is an English writer who just published a book called
The Nature of Truth and she is having her tour on Italy and is waiting on the train. She loved
Italy but hated the hot weather that she was suffering. The last day she had a conference
about the book and all the people there were sweating and she remembered her love for Italy,
the views and the Italian men too. She was talking the Bologna train to continue with the tour
and she left her book and pen on the little table so if she had an idea for the book. She read
her review on a newspaper which said that she was amazing and beautiful, she enjoyed when
Italian men complimented her, she remembered a boyfriend she had that compared her with
mozzarella, his name was Carmine. She stopped reading the review when the author tried to

, write about the philosophical meaning of the book, which was simply about when to be truth
with the couple or the value of a lie or a hard truth. While she was thinking about this, a
woman approached her, Jane Thompson an old mate college, they talked about how they had
been this twenty years and Annie remembered about Jane’s boyfriend James, and how she
thought they married each other when they finished the studies. Jane asked her about her
future and if she was rich. Annie thought that she appeared so much older and worse than she
should. Jane said that she married Pietro Angelo and they had two boys together. She was
living in Padovia and she was an art examinator who went to other museums to watch their art
and buy some, sometimes. She was on a travel to Vernio. After talking two espressos and going
to the toilet, Jane explained that her husband cheated on her with a girl she met in Brussels,
once he forgot some papers, so she called his agency and they said he wasn’t on a business
travel but on a holiday. She found out and they divorced. She said that she would kill the girl if
she had the chance. So, then they arrived to Vernio and she gave Annie a card with her address
in case she went back to Italy and left. Annie remembered that she was the girl James cheated
on Jane with, and at the back of the card it was written I know it was you and I know where
you live, just because she gave for politeness her card back to Jane.

3. Just the Facts

This story is about a young journalist called miss Thomas who works on the Gazette and she is
covering a execution of a black guy called Pearson who committed a crime when he was
seventeen years old and he was a burglar who killed in a rich house a judge who was popular,
judge Baker. She was working with Ron Gretzky, he was old and had been in that world a lot of
time, so he was like the leader for her. Their boss, Len Jackson the head master of the
Livingstone Gazette wanted Miss Thomas to start doing this kind of news, and this was her first
one. So, Gretzky said that she only needed to tell what the people wanted, stuff like the last
meal or things like that. She had already talked with Pearson and she thought that maybe he
wasn’t like so she wrote a report, but Gretzky made her delete it, because nobody wanted
that, they wanted the execution. Although the guy himself said that he was innocent. He had a
large last meal and Gretzky and her were on the car on their travel to go to see the execution.
The judge had two kids: Kathy (who nobody knew anything about her because she moved to
Europe) and a son called John who was a lawyer like him. When they stopped at the service
stop, someone entered the car and appeared to have a gun, it was Kate, and she wanted to say
that she killed her father and Gary Pearson was innocent.

Her father abused her and her mother and he was a drunk, and one night he fell asleep on his
table and woke up when Gary Pearson entered to steal some stuff so he started screaming and
Kate went downstairs, he tried to rape her and she grabbed one of the multiple guns that his
father had and shot him twice. His brother helped her to create a story, because he loved his
father. They were going to the unit where the execution was planned to try to liberate
Pearson. When they arrived, John looked shocked of seeing his sister and she screamed that
Pearson was innocent with Miss Thomas, but nobody believed them. Gretzky doubted that the
girl was telling the truth. So, Miss Thomas was angry with him. They took Kate on a car and the
execution continued. Miss Thomas ran away, she didn’t want to be in Texas, during that
execution, seeing how the power corrupts people. So, she ran, she got a job as a waitress in
Seattle, where she was from and got a little job in a newspaper where she could write the story
and just the facts, so that meant the truth.
