psychotherapy.
The nursing theory that best guides my practice is Virginia Henderson’s Need Theory.
The theory postulates that nursing intervention should focus on increasing the personal
independence of the patient even as he or she is hospitalized. In applying nursing
intervention, the intention is to expedite the patient’s recovery by focusing on four key needs.
Firstly, social needs that cover recreational needs and accomplishment. Secondly, spiritual
needs that relate to worship and faith. Thirdly, psychological needs that highlight handling
fears, learning, eating and dressing. Finally, physiological needs that cover areas relating to
the environment, dress, eating and sleeping. By integrating this theory in practice, I expect to
create practical and personalized nursing intervention plans that supplement the strength of
