Pharmacology - ANS-study of drugs and their effects on the body
The Right Patient - ANS-check ID band for name and date of birth (also check for what their
allergies)
The Right drug - ANS-Check label three times
1. before taking the drug from the med cart
2. before measuring it into the spill container
3. before giving it to my patient
The Right Dose - ANS--Make sure the patient is receiving the right amount of a drug before
administering it
-Make proper calculations

When can a dosage require change - ANS-For a geriatric patient they must have vomited,
nausea, diseases, poor liver, or kidney problem
I can never change a dosage I must... - ANS-Document it then send it to who ever ordered it,
physician, osteopaths, nurse practioner etc.
AS a nurse I can never... - ANS--write an order
-give up my order to a physician
The Right Route - ANS-
In order to change a route as a nurse I must... - ANS-Get a new order
Evodie is required too.. - ANS-see the patient take the medication before leaving the room, and
then document it
The Right Time - ANS--Make sure you are giving the patient the drug at the right time (some
hospitals agree with the 30 before, 30 after)
-Document the time you gave it not when it was suppose to be given
The Right Documentation - ANS--Don't forget to provide a signature
NEVER - ANS-give a medication prepared by another nurse
