, This triangle is based on the Lewis Model and it depicts my own cultural profile, based on the
sixteen communication styles and values.
Figure 1: Visual Personal
Profile
Figure 1 illustrates how people within my own Dutch culture see and perceive me. It appears
that I have a slight inclination towards linear-active culture, which indicates that I am more task-
oriented and organized in my daily life. This is quite aligned with ‘Dutch’ culture, as they are in general
also very linear-active, which can be seen in figure 2. Additionally, an interesting thing I learnt from my
personal profile is that my culture is ideal to work in the hospitality industry.

Netherlands Thailand
These two figures depict the visual country comparison between my personal profile The Netherlands
(figure 2) and Thailand (figure 3). The large dot represents me, whereas the smaller dot represents
the country’s national cultural average. Thailand’s culture is more reactive, indicating that they try to
avoid confrontation when possible and wish to maintain ‘face’.
As seen in the previous figures, my personal culture is primarily linear-active, whereas
Thailand’s is primarily reactive. The reasoning behind my choice for Thailand is because I plan to
move there once I have completed my studies in The Netherlands. I had previously travelled
extensively in Thailand and I fell in love with the country. Despite the extreme cultural differences, I’m
interested in further educating myself in how I can adapt myself to the Thai culture. Since I wish to
work in Thailand, I will be analyzing points that will be prominent in professional situations.
The company I have chosen for this assignment is the Marriott, specifically their location in
the west of Phuket, Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort. I wish to work as an Human Resources intern,
due to the fact that this department speaks to me most.
