Introduction to the urogenital System. The urinary system: kidneys - internal structure and blood supply, ureters, urinary bladder and urethra - male and female. Male reproductive (genital) system: testes, vas deferens, ejaculatory ducts, spermatic cord, penis, seminal vesicles, prostate gland and the bulbourethral gland. Female reproductive (genital) system: ovaries, uterine tubes (Fallopian tubes), uterus, vagina, cervix, mons pubis, labia Minora and Majora, clitoris and hymen

Introduction to the gastrointestinal system. The oral cavity, the tongue- tongue papillae. Salivary glands - parotid, sublingual, submandibular. The pharynx: the swallowing process. The oesophagus, the stomach- parts of the stomach, blood supply, nerve supply and stomach relations. The small intestine vs the large intestine. Parts of the small intestine and parts of the large intestine. Accessory digestive organs- liver, gallbladder and pancreas.

Introduction to the respiratory system notes. Notes includes the functions and organization of the respiratory system. The upper respiratory system: nose and nasal cavity; the pharynx - the nasopharynx, oropharynx and laryngopharynx. The lower respiratory system: the larynx- the cartilages and ligaments; the trachea; the bronchi; the lungs- the right and left; the structures related to the mediastinsl surfaces; and the bronchopulmonary segments; the arterial and venous supply of the lungs.

Introduction to radiology. Types of imaging techniques: x-rays, fluoroscopy, interventional radiology- angiogram, angioplasty and venogram. Computer tomography (CT scan); Ultrasound and Magnetic Resosance Imaging (MRI scan).

Introduction to the endocrine system. Notes include the major endocrine glands and organs containing endocrine tissue, the hormones the glands release and the effects of those hormones on the body. The notes also include the endocrine disorders, prostaglandins and the feedback control of hormone release.

Introduction to the cardiovascular system. The heart: orientation, right atrium, right ventricle, left atrium, left ventricle. Nerve supply: parasympathetic and sympathetic innervation. Blood vessels: inferior and superior vena cava, aorta, pulmonary artery and vein, varicose veins. Cardiovascular diseases and the lymphatic system.

Introduction to the musculoskeletal system. Skeletal system: bones - shape, functions, structure, by method of formation, location, blood supply; joints - fibrous, cartilaginous and synovial. Muscle system: skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle.

Introduction to the Nervous System notes, including the structural and functional organization of the nervous system, the peripheral and the central nervous system. The neuron, neuralgia and the myelin sheath. The notes go into the brain: white matter vs grey matter; the ventricles, surface anatomy - lobes, sulci and gyri as well as the sensory and motor areas of the brain. The notes also go into the brainstem and the spinal cord, as well as the protection of the brain and spinal cord.
