Requirements:
- Max. 3 minutes → submit in MP4 → no reading from a paper.
- Related to session 1 (9/1/2024)
- Questions:
- How do you feel about the drug development industry? → I think it is too profit
driven and therefore the public interest is not taken into account enough.
- How is our society trying to balance public health and commercial interest? → by
ensuring regulated competition between different companies for getting drugs to
the market and becoming successful, and also through limited patent lifes.
- What do you think should change about this and why? Or, if so, why do you think
our current balance is justified? → the current balance is not justified, because the
extensive patent lifes create the opportunity for a market monopoly and high
pricing.
- Whilst trying to avoid describing a Utopia, what do you think can realistically be
done, to keep our public health affordable? → I think there should be more
public-private partnerships, preventive care can be subsidized to make it
interesting, me-too drugs should be forbidden, there should be more value-based
healthcare (increasing transparency in pricing and quality).
- 3 parts: (1) opinion about drug development industry, (2) how a balance should be struck
between public health and commercial interest, (3) conclusion (objectively, indicating
where your opinion comes in).
