Technical, operational and management skills needed
When you start a business it is important for the owner to recognize what skills he has
and what skills are needed to run the business. He also needs to see what skills he can
develop for himself to operate even better. If a business owner lacks in certain skills he
might have to consider employing somebody who does possess these skills. Every
business is different and operates in a different way, so each business requires other
skills. A new business owner will have to determine what skills are important to have for
the business. For my business it is important to have technical knowledge about the
product. You need to know how you should store the product, where it is from and the
benefits of the product.
A successful manager needs to have three key skills:
- Human skills
- Technical skills
- Conceptual skills
Human skills are important to possess if want to run a company because managers
need to be able to lead, communicate and influence effectively everyone involved in the
business including colleagues, employees, customers, shareholders and suppliers. For
my company it is important to have human skills; you have to talk to your customers to
keep them happy, you also have to talk to your potential clients and convince them they
have to buy the blueberries at my business. I also have to use the benefits of playing
sports in a team; I can talk about my business in the team, some might be interested to
buy the product.
Technical skills are important to possess because managers are required to have the
technical skills and knowledge to enable the product to be developed and produced. For
this fruit business it is important to know where the product is from and how it got
produced. I can tell my customers a little bit more about the product, this will make the
customer make him feel like I really know something about the product and I am
interested in it.
Conceptual skills are important to have as well because managers should have the
ability to perceive and develop new concepts as well as be able to solve problems and
make decisions. The conceptual skill is a very important one to have as well, as an
owner of a fruit business you need to create some variety. People will remain interested
because I change my products from time to time.
