HC 1 - Role of Information Systems (IS) in organizations
Er zijn verschillende definities omdat er op verschillende manieren op IS wordt gekeken.
“Information systems (IS) is the study of complementary networks of hardware and software that
people and organizations use to collect, filter, process, create, and distribute data.”1
Combinatie van netwerk/hardware, software dat verzameld wordt door mensen en organisaties.
“Information systems are combinations of hardware, software, and telecommunications networks
that people build and use to collect, create, and distribute useful data, typically in organizational
settings.”2
Combinatie van hardware, software en telecommunicatie die ook gebruikt worden.
“Information systems are interrelated components working together to collect, process, store, and
disseminate information to support decision making, coordination, control, analysis, and
visualization in an organization.”3
Componenten die samenwerken om data te verzamelen, processen, op te slaan.
Informatieverwerking/informatievoorzieningen die in dienst staan van organisatie.

“Information Systems are formal, sociotechnical, organizational systems designed to collect, process, store and distribute
information.”
Onzichtbaar systeem die je binnen een organisatie hebt. Combinatie van techniek en mensen die
ermee werken in bepaalde processen. Techniek (tool) speelt hier een rol. Het is gehele structuur van
de informatie voorziening. Focus ligt op de formele informatie.

Automate – rood ; Informate – blauw ; Transform – groen
Automatiseren - Je moet goed weten welke informatievoorziening een organisatie nodig heeft om een proces
te kunnen automatiseren wil je succesvol zijn.
Informeren - Bijv. van balie naar online inchecken – het heeft invloed op de klanten, personeel achter de balie.
De mensen achter de balie krijgen hierbij een andere taak, zij zijn voor de moeilijke vragen. Waarbij andere
vaardigheden zijn verreist.
Transformeren - Expertises/kennis zit in de hoofd van de mensen. Hiervoor zijn systemen nodig om deze kennis
te behouden/vast te leggen zodat andere dit kunnen gebruiken. Wil je dit laten werken, dan moet je deze
mensen in een taak laten opnemen en belonen/ afdeling anders organiseren/nieuwe functies creëren.
Main technical components – Database, Software, Netwerk
Niet alleen kijken naar de hardware maar naar mensen en organisatie in zijn geheel, het wordt allemaal beïnvloed
wanneer je het gaat automatiseren.
