All kinds of diversity, related to opportunities (e.g. ethnic background, religion, gender,
etc → depends on context). For example: in engineering, gender is relevant (because
minority is female).
Why a course on diversity?
1. Increasing migration
a. Superdiversity: increasing diversity within groups + there is no longer a majority
group, but rather a lot of minority groups.
2. Unequal opportunities
a. Disparity between secondary school advice and test score, according to educational
level parents: teachers give higher advice when your parents have a higher education
degree.

● Er wordt niet vaak over witheid gesproken in NL, omdat het wordt gezien als normaal, de
standaard
● Witheid wordt vaak vermengd met burgerschap en nationale identiteit
● Witheid is culturele gecontracteerd; het heeft geen valide fundatie in biologie, het is een
sociaal feit, met structurele oorzaken en consequenties
● Witheid geeft individuen voordelen (wit privilege)
Paradoxen
1. Ontkenning racisme vs passionele reacties wanneer beschuldigd van racisme
2. Weinig identificatie met huidige migranten vs groot aantal NLse mensen met zelf een
migratiegeschiedenis
3. Onschuldig slachtoffer van Duitse agressie vs zelf een agressor zijn in koloniaal verleden
4. Weinig aandacht in NL onderwijs voor de Nederlandse imperiale aanwezigheid

1. Unlearn racism
2. Geef je rol toe
3. Zoek naar een groter WIJ
4. Wees nooit onverschillig
