General personality disorder
Enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates from culture. Manifested in
two (or more):
1. Cognition
2. Affectivity
3. Interpersonal functioning
4. Impulse control

Cluster A

Paranoid personality disorder
Distrust and suspiciousness of others that their motives are kwaadaardig.

Schizoid personality disorder
Detachment from social relationships, restricted range of expression of emotions in
interpersonal settings, beginning by early adulthood. Indicated by four (or more):
1. Neither desires nor enjoys close relationships
2. Chooses solitary activities
3. Little interest in having sexual experiences
4. Takes pleasure in few activities
5. Lacks close friends or confidants
6. Appears indifferent to praise or criticism of others
7. Emotional coldness, detachment, or flattened activity

Schizotypal personality disorder
Social and interpersonal deficits marked by acute discomfort with and reduced capacity for
close relationships. As well as by cognitive or perceptual distortions and eccentric behavior.
Five (or more):
1. Ideas of reference (excluding delusions of reference)
(False beliefs that random or irrelevant occurrences in the world directly relate to oneself. When
someone believes their thoughts, actions, or presence caused an event to occur, they are
experiencing this cognitive distortion.)
2. Odd beliefs or magical thinking
3. Unusual perceptual experiences
4. Odd thinking and speech
5. Suspiciousness or paranoid ideation
6. Inappropriate or constricted affect
7. Behavior of appearance that is odd, eccentric, or peculiar
8. Lack of close friends or confidants
9. Excessive social anxiety

Antisocial personality disorder
Disregard for and violation of the rights of others.
Failure to conform to social norms (arrest). Deceitfulness (bedrog door liegen/oplichten).
Impulsivity or failure to plan. Irritability and aggressiveness. Disregard for safety.
Irresponsibility. Lack of remorse.

Borderline personality disorder
Instability in interpersonal relationships, self-image and affect.
Marked by impulsivity. Efforts to avoid abandonment. Identity disturbance. Suicidal behavior.
Reactivity of mood. Feels of emptiness. Anger. Dissociative symptoms/paranoid.

Histrionic personality disorder
Excessive emotionality and attention seeking.
Center of attention. Inappropriate sexually seductive/provocative behavior. Rapidly shifting
and shallow emotions. Using physical appearance for attention. Speech lacking detail. Self-
dramatization. Suggestible (easy influenced). Considers relationships more intimate than
they really are.

Narcissistic personality disorder
Grandiosity, need for admiration, lack of empathy.

Cluster C

Avoidant personality disorder
Social inhibition, feelings of inadequacy, hypersensitivity to negative evaluation. Fears of
criticism, disapproval or rejection.

Dependent personality disorder
Need to be taken care of that leads to submissive and clinging behavior and fears of
separation.
Difficulty making everyday decisions. Needs others to assume responsibility. Difficulty
expressing disagreement. Fear of loss of support or approval. Lack of self-confidence. Fears
of being unable to care for themselves/ left to take care of.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder
Preoccupation with orderliness, perfectionism, and mental and interpersonal control ten
