Hoofdstuk 2: Process Identification
Process identification focus on key business processes. Consists two phases:
- Designation (het begrijpen van de verschillende processen)
- Evaluation (prioritering van de verschillende processen)
In practice: identify processes that are worthwhile to manage, e.g. to redesign or to support with
workflow technology.
Phase 1: Designation
Goal: gain understanding of the major processes and their inter-relationships.
How to determine the most important, independent processes?
Issue: What level of process should I take?
Are there only three business processes in all organisations?
1. Development of new products/services
2. Delivering products to customers
3. Managing customer relationships
We have to categorize processes (Porter’s value chain)
Criteria:
- Impact
- Manageability
- Identify narrow and broad processes
o Narrow process: detail, no overview
o Broad process: overview, no detail
o A narrow process is mostly a sub-process
