Instructions: This paper consists of THREE SECTIONS: SECTION A: BIOMEDICAL ETHICS SECTION B: BUSINESS ETHICS SECTION C: ENVIRONMENTAL ETHICS • Only answer the questions that appear under the section that you have studied during the semester. • Each essay should be approximately 2000 words. • You must submit both your essays as A SINGLE DOCUMENT. • Your examination script should be uploaded in PDF format. Additional student instructions (from the University): Online examination rules For file upload/take-home examinations 1. NO e-mailed scripts will be accepted. 2. Students are advised to preview submissions (answer scripts) to ensure legibility and also to ensure that the correct answer script file has been uploaded. 3. Students are permitted to resubmit their answer scripts, but only within the stipulated submission duration, should they regard the initial submission to be unsatisfactory. Resubmissions after the closing time of the examination are not permitted. 4. Wrong answer scripts that are uploaded, that is, any file other than the exam answer script (e.g., uploading the exam question paper instead of the exam answer script) will not be marked and no opportunity will be granted for resubmission. 5. A mark awarded for an incomplete submission will be the student’s final mark. No opportunity for resubmission will be granted. 6. A mark awarded for an illegible scanned submission will be the student’s final mark. No opportunity for resubmission will be granted. 7. Only the last answer file uploaded within the stipulated submission duration period will be marked. 8. Submissions will only be accepted from registered student accounts. 9. Students must complete the online declaration of their work when submitting their examination script. Students suspected of dishonest conduct during the examinations will be subjected to disciplinary processes. Students may not communicate with any other person or request assistance from any other person during their examinations. The use of Telegram, or any other instant messaging services with any other person (except when asking for technical assistance via official channels of the SCSC or the Invigilator line) are strictly prohibited. Plagiarism is a violation of academic integrity and students who plagiarise, copy from published work or use Artificial Intelligence Software (e.g., ChatGPT) or online sources (eg course material) will be in violation of the Policy on Academic Integrity and the Student Disciplinary Code and may be referred to a disciplinary hearing. Unisa has a zero-tolerance policy for plagiarism and/or any other forms of academic dishonesty. 10. Proctoring will be in the form of Turnitin. Final submission must be accompanied by a Turnitin similariaty report. 11. Non-adherence to the processes for uploading examination responses will not qualify the student for any special concessions or future assessments. 12. Ethical Arguments in Favour of Termination of Pregnancy

Supporters of abortion generally base their arguments on the principle of autonomy and the
rights of women to make decisions about their own bodies. From this perspective, forcing a
woman to carry a pregnancy to term against her will is a violation of her bodily integrity and
personal freedom. A central claim in Western bioethics is that moral agents must have the right
to self-determination, provided their decisions do not unjustifiably harm others.

Another strong argument in favour of abortion is based on beneficence and non-maleficence—
that is, the duty to promote well-being and avoid harm. Pregnancy can threaten a woman’s
physical or mental health, particularly in cases of rape, incest, or medical complications. In such
circumstances, abortion may be justified to prevent greater suffering.

The justice argument further supports access to safe and legal abortion as an issue of equality.
Restrictive abortion laws often disproportionately harm poor and marginalized women, forcing
them to seek unsafe procedures. Allowing abortion promotes fairness and social justice by giving
all women equal access to healthcare and reproductive choice.
