school. Her frantic parents contacted her teachers and friends, but Thandi has not been
seen by anyone.
1.1 In your own words, define a “missing person”. (3)
A missing person is defined as anyone under the age of 18 who has been reported
missing, or anyone 18 or older who is seriously ill – either mentally or physically – or
who is absent under circumstances that would indicate involuntary disappearance.
1.2 Discuss the process of investigating the missing person case, registered after
Thandi’s disappearance. (10)
You must share information about any missing individual as soon as the police report
the person missing. Inquire thoroughly with the person reporting the missing person and
acquire an affidavit in its entirety from him or her. The circumstances underlying the
disappearance must be thoroughly stated. This is especially vital if abduction or
kidnapping is suspected, because the initial few hours are critical. The attacker may
later determine that the victim is no longer needed. If it appears that the person did not
go missing of his or her own volition at any stage after being reported missing, open a
docket with the necessary charge.
Complete SAPS 55(A) twice and include two recent images of the missing person. If an

the missing person, the SAPS will be given the mandate to search for an adult missing

tracing a missing person:

Determine whether the person is truly missing.
Determine the missing person's present status, such as married/single/divorced.
If the missing person is an adult, it is equally critical to look into his or her
financial situation.
Determine the missing person's birth or adopted parents, family, and friends.

diary. The information, along with a detailed description of the missing individual,
must be broadcast to all patrol vehicles via radio.
