Assignment 10.2: Shadow Health Focused Exam: Hypertension and Type 2 Diabetes and Antihypertensives Concept Lab

Synopsis of the Shadow Health assignment This shadow health assignment was about Mr. Patel, who came into the facility for a follow-up appointment to treat diabetes and hypertension. He felt that he had gained 15 pounds over the past couple of months and complained about feeling fatigued and "blah." He also stated that he feels more anxious about his life and does not feel like his medications have been working. He is currently a student and teaches film at the local college. However, his girlfriend just moved in with him to help support him and helps relieve some of his anxiety. He does not have any extra funds to spend on medications and is worried about his overall health. His lab values showed that his blood glucose is still elevated at 212, and his A1C is currently 9.5%. He does not monitor his blood sugars at home because he does not like needles. His blood pressure was also elevated during the visit at 142/96. The patient currently takes medication for his high blood but has been under increasing amounts of stress lately. I prescribed Mr. Patel glipizide/metformin 2.5 mg/ 500 mg twice daily by mouth to treat his type 2 diabetes. I also gave him lisinopril/ hydrochlorothiazide 10 mg/ 12.5 mg tablets once daily by mouth to treat his high blood pressure. I educated him on how important diet was and how important is it to monitor his blood glucose levels. I also gave education about how high anxiety levels can also increase his blood pressure and how he needs to find a healthy outlet to relieve some of his anxiety
