A communication barrier is anything that prevents us from receiving and
understanding the messages others use to transmit their information, ideas, and thoughts
(Kumbakonam, 2016). Loss of hearing is the inability to apprehend sounds. Loss of
hearing impacts affects school performance, there is an education gap for students which
such disabilities because a student with hearing loss finds it hard to understand what the
teacher is saying and also does not do well as the other students. Aside from the
education gap, it can be also frustrating socially when trying to meet new people or have a
proper conversation with coworkers (Victory, 2020.) According to Healthy Hearing,
"Communication is vital to social interactions and healthy peer relationships; without the
ability to communicate effectively they often experience feelings of isolation and
unhappiness.” From my experience, people who are disabled find it hard to communicate
with their friends and sometimes cannot relate to what they are saying; sometimes this
feels lonely and can make that person feel left out with other activities. It is going to be
hard to participate in sports activities because playing any sports requires communication
and team participation.
Some of the interventions that can be done to overcome the loss of
hearing/hearing loss is getting a device such as hearing aids which are going to help
improve the client's hearing loss and also improve communication. Working with a
specialist or someone who is well trained to teach sign language if hearing aids are not
affordable since they tend to be expensive, it'll be easier if the family learns sign language
