WJEC LEVEL 3 APPLIED DIPLOMA IN
CRIMINOLOGY
Summary: Criminology Unit 3 – AC 1.3
Explain How Evidence is Processed
In criminal investigations, evidence must be collected, handled, and presented correctly to
ensure it is reliable, credible, and admissible in court. Evidence can be divided into
physical evidence and testimonial evidence, both of which follow strict procedures to
prevent contamination, error, and miscarriages of justice.
Physical Evidence
Physical evidence refers to any tangible material found at a crime scene that can be
scientifically analysed. This includes bodily fluids and tissues, impression evidence, and
trace evidence.
