Role of God-
- Creates and sustains all that exists
- Guides and inspires people to do god's will for the good of all people
- Communicate with us (prayer)
- There is only one god (monotheistic)
- The supreme being
Attributes of God-
- Omnipotent (all powerful)
- Benevolent (all-loving)
- Omniscient (all-knowing)
- Omnipresent (present everywhere)
- Just/fair
The trinity-
- the belief that there are 3 persons in the one god, they are separate but also one being
- the Father
- - creator of the earth and all living things, father figure, has main attributes of God
- the Son
- - the incarnate of God (flesh form). in history known as Jesus.
- the Holy Spirit
- - Unseen power of God. An influence, guides and sustains the earth and all life.
sent after Jesus returned to heaven
Creation of the universe-
- Catholics strictly believe in Genesis 1 and the literal meaning
- Liberal christians/protestants believe in the scientific process (But believe that God caused it
to happen, and why he did it is more important
- the creation was 'good’
- Although it is said that the father created the universe, some believe that the whole trinity
was present.
- E.g "The spirit of God hovering over the waters" shows the holy spirit was present from the
beginning.
- E.g "In the beginning was the Word" Word referring to the son of God showing that he was
also present from the beginning
The incarnation of God and Jesus-
- fundamental belief that through the incarnation, god showed himself as a human for around
30 yrs
- stories of incarnation- the birth (virgin conception), Baptism- voice from heaven saying 'You
are my son'
- the overall incarnation of God gives clear support and makes it easier to understand the
trinity
