Reproduction is the biological process through which living organisms give rise to new individuals of their own kind, ensuring the continuity of life. It occurs in two main ways: asexual reproduction, where a single parent produces identical offspring through methods like binary fission, budding, spore formation, and vegetative propagation; and sexual reproduction, which involves the fusion of male and female gametes to produce genetically diverse offspring. In plants, reproduction occurs through flowers, pollination, fertilization, seed formation, and germination, while in animals it takes place through specialized reproductive systems. In humans, the male and female reproductive systems work together to produce gametes, support fertilization, and enable the development of an embryo. Important concepts such as puberty, menstrual cycle, contraception, and modern techniques like cloning are also part of this study. Overall, this chapter highlights how reproduction maintains the survival of species and introduces learners to both the natural processes and scientific advancements related to life’s continuity.
