-merging tables with different structures
-when you need flexibility and control over merged data
-when you need to merge data from different databases, spreadsheets, etc..

1.3.1 Rename a data field - ANSWERMultiple Methods:

1) Right click the data field and rename

2) Click and hold the data field name, until the name changes into the same text
field, then type in new name and hit enter

3) Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + Enter, until the name changes, then type in new name
and hit enter

4: -Go to Data Source page --> see bold column titles, those are data fields
-hover mouse over drop down menu arrow
-click on arrow --> Select Rename --> rename your field
-Enter. OR you can just double click on the column title and rename there.

1.3.2 Assign an alias to a data value - ANSWER1) Go to data pane --> right click,
select Aliases

2) Select a member and enter a new name

3) Save changes by clicking OK (on Tableau Desktop) or X (on Tableau
Server/Cloud)

1.3.3 Assign a geographic role to a data field - ANSWERThere are two ways to
assign a geographic role to a data field:

1) Right-click on the field name in the Data pane and choose Geographic role.

2) Data Pane --> Click on the icon to the left of the field name --> choose Geographic
role.

1.3.4 Change data type for a data field (number, date, string, Boolean, etc.) -
