Week 4 Assignment Template:
Reflecting on Your Skills, Goals, and Accomplishments
Part 1: About Me

Answer the following questions to capture how you see yourself in terms of values, aspirations,
key qualities, goals, strengths, and areas of growth:

1) Describe your values, motivations, or aspirations in your own words.

What I value the most is family. I’ve lost so many in the last five years that it really
makes me cherish the few I have left. My motivation again is my family. None of my
mother’s kids went to college. I wanted to give her something to be proud of. My
aspirations are to be the first in my family to complete college.

2) Describe some of your main personal, academic, and professional goals. Make sure to
write five or more complete sentences.

Mainly I’d personally I love to do make up. Working for so many different jobs, I was so
unhappy. Until I said to myself one day, Mamie! What are you doing? you hate your job!
There out their people that get up and love to go to work. Why can’t I be one of those
people. I love to do makeup. I love to make people feel beautiful. I love to do nails. I
signed up school and it took off. Before Covid, I had a nice clientele. For the first time I
was loving to get up earlier then everyone else to prepare for the day. Then ugh, Covid19
hit. I lost everything even became homeless. Times we’re really, hard for me and my
baby. School popped in my head. I said self, your way too old to think about going back
to school. You can’t even use computers. So now here I am. Professionally I’d love to one
day have my own salon or maybe even teach makeup. Maybe, Mamie’s Makeup to the
Stars… I don’t know something like that.

3) What are some of your strength areas? Think about the top 2–3 skills you would
advertise about yourself, or consider what others come to you for advice about. Make
sure to write five or more complete sentences.

My strengths. People tell me I’m strong, and outgoing. I’m not afraid to open my mouth
and say something, if it’s something I don’t like. I’m a great friend. There’s nothing I
wouldn’t do if I call you, my friend! I’m super loyal! ill always be there for you through
thick and thin. Wait I sound like I’m describing a dog! I guess, this is I.

4) What are some areas you would like to grow and improve in? Make sure to write five
or more complete sentences.

Some area’s I’d like to grow in. well how much time do you have. I need to focus better. I
need to be more reliable. I need to learn how to say NO! I have that bad I’m a people
pleaser. Even if I know I’m strapped for time, I’ll show up late. Just because I couldn’t jus
say no. I’d love to get better at this school thing. it’s been really challenging for me. I
won’t give up! I’ll give it my all.

Part 2: Accomplishment Statements

Accomplishments don’t have to be as large as climbing the top of Mount Everest or starting
your own company. We accomplish many things in our lives every day that have meaning. For
example, perhaps you organized volunteers for your school’s food drive or made an extremely
profitable sale. Or, if you’re more advanced in your career, perhaps you’ve received a promotion
or special recognition.

In this part of the assignment, you’ll identify two accomplishments from work, school,
volunteering, or other activities. You’ll then practice communicating these in ways appropriate
for a résumé.

To begin, brainstorm accomplishments from your work, school, volunteering, or other activities.
Read the Accomplishment Categories section for a list. After you’ve identified two
accomplishments, write statements for each accomplishment using the information below:

Step 1: Think about each of your accomplishments in these terms:

Challenge Situation, problem, or requirement.

Action Specific actions you took to resolve or meet the challenge.

Result The benefit created in specific and measurable terms. Be sure to tie results to
the organization’s goals when possible.

Details Clarifying details, such as numbers or percentages, to provide context (consider
answering how many, how much, how long, or how often).

Consider the example below of someone with experience as a retail manager:

Challenge An increase in customer complaints about the helpfulness of staff.
