Technology: is defined as the process by which an organization transforms, labour, capital
materials and information into products or services.

, Technological change: any change in the application of information to the production
process in such a way as to increase efficiency.

o Resulting in either the production of a given output with fewer resources;
o The production of better/newer products

Tech change from strategic perspective:

- Process of introducing new technologies or modifications to current technologies in
an organization with the aim to gain a competitive advantage or achieve
organizational goals



Why focus on managing technological change?

- Ubiquity of technology: Every industry and aspect of life is touched by technological
change
- Disruption: Technological advancements can create winners and losers.
o Firms must adapt or face obsolescence (economische veroudering)
- Critical for survival and success
o To stay ahead of competition
o Improve efficiency

We live in an era of ‘Technology fascination’:

- Society is increasingly engaged, excited by or obsessed with technological
advancements.
