Motivation Intrinsic Motivation:
It seems that Alberto is driven by his internal interests because he:
- is interested in learning English, French, and Portuguese as he
enjoys learning languages.
- finds (a) Environment, (b) Science, (c)Technology, and (d) Current
Affairs intriguing.
- wants to understand English movies too.
Keeping this in mind and incorporating this will make his learning
experience fun and self-sustaining. Thus, Alberto will be committed and
stay engaged in the lessons.

Extrinsic Motivation:
Alberto provided clear and measurable goals he would like to achieve.
Because of his strong sense of purpose, he would like to:
- communicate with his English-speaking friends more easily.
- improve his English (L2) as he wants to progress in his career,
especially in finding a job in England, or in his job at the
Automotive Company where he is working at in Spain.
- travel, and to prepare for travelling. He knows it will be
advantageous and practical for him to speak and understand
English.
Perceived Strengths Alberto may likely have the following strengths due to his educational

Perceived Alberto may face a few challenges, namely:
Weaknesses - listening skills, and
- conversational skills (especially his pronunciation of English
vocab.),
His “challenges” are more likely to hinder his communication in his
“Professional Work Environment” as well as “Informal Chats” with his
friends.
Learning Alberto prefers a “funny teacher with good pronunciation”. Therefore,
Preferences the lessons should/must be shaped around:
- humorous activities, and
- authentic material,
which include Alberto’s interests, namely:
- Football (verbally stated in his interview),
- Music (Rock) (verbally stated in his interview),

, Teacher’s Role The tutor can/will simplify the lessons with humorous authentic
materials and activities to keep Alberto engaged.
The tutor will focus on the above “Learning Preferences”, easily aligning
Alberto’s Professional and Personal interests with one another.
By focusing on this, the tutor will teach the correct pronunciation,
focusing on Alberto’s grammar-, reading-, speaking- and listening skills to
maintain interactive conversations with one another.

Syllabus Type:

For this course plan, a “Multi-Syllabus Approach” will be beneficial to Alberto’s specific
needs and desired outcomes, because it will combine features such as:

- Task-based- (this focuses on forming lessons around the target language through
real-world context, such as role-plays or completing tasks which mimics real-life
situations),
- Functional-notional- (the way on how a second language is taught, is to focus on
communicating the words’ meaning and how it is expressed verbally instead of the
words’ grammatical structure)-, and
- Lexical syllabus (this essential teaching method focusses on ‘technical vocab’ and
phrases while communicating in specific contexts).
A “Multi-Syllable Approach” will ensure that speaking-, listening-, and pronunciation skills
with the appropriate vocab, will improve Alberto’s vocabulary as it will be according to his
interests and work-related roles. Therefore, meeting Alberto's diverse needs.
Course Aims:
By the end of the course, the student, Alberto, will be better able to…

- Confidently communicate more fluently during his everyday conversations when he uses
his English in both professional- (interviews and working environment) and social contexts
(traveling, casual conversations with friends, etc.).
- Participate and understand listening activities.
- Develop a better reading comprehension ability, which will improve his understanding in
the English grammatical structures’ correct usage, orally and written.
- Enhance his speaking skills through the acquired vocab, which will also improve his
pronunciation and intonation, helping him to speak more fluently and naturally, and
- Understand and comprehend the English culture and media on a deeper level than before.
