Expected Pharmacological Action Therapeutic Use
Prevents conversion of prothronbin to Prophylaxis for venous thromboembolism,
thrombin helpin prevent/break up clots pulmonary emboli breaks up blood clots.
Complications Medication Administration
Rashes, hives, severe bleeding, hepatitis, osteioporisis IV- 10,000units bolus, SC 5000
units iv then 10,000 units.
Contraindications/Precautions
Hypersensitivity to medication, uncontrolled bleeding,
open wounds, severe thrombotopenia
Nursing Interventions
Give in belly
assess for bleeding and
hemmorhage
IG and GU bleeding Bloodwork
to check platelet
Interactions
NSAIDs, ASA, warfarin, digoxin. Anise, chammomile,
garlic, ginger.
Client Education
Report unusual bleeding
Do not take ASA or NSAIDs
