"Asking a question" dislocation - ANS-Inferior dislocation of shoulder--patient holds arm
up as if asking a question
Meds via endotracheal tube - ANS-LANE
lidocaine, atropine, naloxone, epi (peds)
NAVEL
the above plus vasopressin (in adults)
Alcoholic ketoacidosis - ANS-dehydration, vomiting, metabolic acidosis but with low or
negative BAL
Give D5NS
(ketosis is related to generation of NADH)
chalazion - ANS-hard, painless occlusion of meibomian gland
hordeolum (stye) - ANS-infected (painful) occlusion at root of hair follicle
Koplik spots - ANS-Gray spots on buccal mucosa--pathognomonic for measles
periapical abscess - ANS-Severe pain to percussion, d/t dental caries --erosion into pulp
& bacterial overgrowth.
Tx w/ abx & 48 hr dental f/u
Romberg test distinguishes... - ANS-sensory & motor ataxia
(trouble when eyes are closed b/c there's a sensory problem)
Testicular detorsion - ANS-Medial to lateral rotation of 180 degrees
Treatment of Lyme in pregnancy/lactation - ANS-Amoxicillin
Westermark sign - ANS-Wedge shaped area of oligemia/diminished lung markings
Suggestive of PE!!!
, Contraction alkalosis - ANS-Seen in processes with a lot of vomiting ...
Decrease in fluid levels activates RAAS...remember aldosterone dumps H and K to
retain Na/H2O
Dispo in open skull fractures? - ANS-Required to admit for obs/consult neurosurg
Holiday heart - ANS-A fib/flutter d/t excessive alcohol use....treatment is observation.
Goal of irrigating eyes after caustic exposure - ANS-pH 7.0-7.2
Emergent laparotomy in suspected ectopic? - ANS-Persistent tachycardia/vital sign

hydrofluoric acid antidote - ANS-calcium gluconate
sulfonylurea antidote - ANS-Octreotide (and glucose)
most common symptom of aortic dissection - ANS-chest pain
unstable vtach with pulse--treatment? - ANS-synchronized cardioversion
imaging of perforated peptic ulcer - ANS-free air under diaphragm in CXR
